I fairly sure the 80-85ish 305HO Camaro's used a 153T flywheel with the sticks. Not sure about the autos.

Check out paceperformance.com they have a nice little high torque starter that is a stock gm part. Its light as a feather compared to those grocery getter starters that would work for a boat anchor. You cant go wrong for 129.00.

1971 Impala 300 horse 350 has one. Try 68-70 era that should work for sure.

Iam using a clutch and flywheel off of a 63 chevy 2 with a 194 engine and iam having problems getting a starter to work i know that it is 153 tooth but when the starter engages its almost like it binds up i checked the gap and its correct

Any ideas

Will a 168 tooth starter even go into the flywheel and turn it is that why its binding up do i still have the wrong starter?
How can you tell if its the right one or not?

A starter off a 96-99 chevy with the Vortec 350 is small also.

It sounds like you have the right starter, but it sounds like your starter is flexing under load, does your to mounting bolts have the hatch marks on them ? and the small angle iron brace from the starter to the block ?Ive seen were the angle iron brace has fixed a few problems.Jim
