it has probally been asked a 1000 times before and awnsered the same or more but here it goes i have a set of 16 inch front springs and i want to cut them to 12 inches will that make them a lots stiffers or will i really notice it?? there stock front springs from a olds 442. thanks for the help

I've used this formula in the past to estimate spring rate after I cut a stock spring. Doing the math, if you have a 600 lb spring that is 16" and cut it to 12" it should be around 800 lb. I think I got it from a Steve Smith book.

New rate =(1/(new ht/old ht))*old rate

thanks guys i thought i was right but wanted to make sure before doing so. can always cut them down but u cant weld them back up
