I havent used those from performance but i made my own out of aluminized steel .045" and attached it to the side of the frame rail with a 90 degree out to the door and made another bend up the same angle the doors are. ill send a drawing if you want to see what i did on my stock car. I sent it to niehouse and he ok'd it.

use steel form the same as oem unless they really look bad it wont get teched even so if it does it is still ok

Mine were not looking too good when I first built the car, so off they came. Saved alot of weight too. I used roll plastic to go from frame to about 10" up on the quarters, door skins and fenders. Can't seem to keep stickers on the plastic though.

i used them in my 2005 car. just put a patch in the front to act as a brace..looks good and does not fill up with clay underneath.
