Got a buddy racing Super Stock with an old Howe chassis, Camaro stub, with mono leafs. Had a torque arm but the way things were mounted it's no wonder it didn't work well. Looking for ideas for this car at 3400 pounds on IMCA tires. Pull bar or torque arm? Rubber or spring on pull bar? Change to multi leaf? Car can be changed to bars with a little work but driver pretty new and doesn't have much help.

Anyone ever run the old reese bar setup?

Thanks,
Superdave

I've tried just about everything imaginable, the best setup was multileaf on the left and coil-mono rt.or mono rt.No pullbars or 90/10shocks.Mount the front spring eyes flush with the bottom of the frame with sliders on the rear 12" higher.

i'd float the housing on the springs, use bearing sliders instead of shackles, a pull bar/spring bar and a long panhard bar mounted to the chassis on the passengers side and the rearend on the drivers side positioned level at ride height. this is where i would start.

i've also had good luck with multi-leafs mounted solid to the rearend without the pullbar and the same type panhard bar and bearing sliders. with this arrangement you might want to add and extra half leaf on the front of the springs to control axle wrap. staggered shocks is also beneficial with either setup.

I ran the reese bar yrs ago on just about the same kind of car. worked great as long as you float the rearend on the leafs. ran a snubber bar on the top side and a j-bar. the car got traction from h***. Loved the set-up.

Thinking about the reese bar setup for simplicity reasons but looking at the pull bar because of the IMCA tires. I think we ran better tires back in the reese bar days. Won't the monoleafs bow up and bend if you float them?

Thanks,

superdave, ours never bowed, I now run a factory stock in OKC, sure wish I could put that set-up on ours. The reese bar set-up was the best traction car I have ever drove. Still have the car but nowhere to run it around here anymore. It has a quick change w/mono-leaf, coil springs & the snubber bar. It was a limited late model in the early 80's.
