I'm trying to put a hobby stock together, and I was wondering if anyone knew what rearend gear I should start with at I-35 speedway in mason city. I also would like to run in britt, and have absolutely no idea where to even start with gear.

It depends on what you have for a motor, tranny, and tire roll out. If you provide this stuff, somebody will be able to point you in the right direction. You can also do a search on this site.

I looked it up and this would be on a 1/2 mile semi-banked track.

The motor is a 355 9:1, cast heads, 2bbl with a cast iron intake. The transmission is a bone-stock 3-speed manual. The tires are DOT 205's all the way around. I was thinking somewhere in the range of a 5.83 gear, but since I'm a newbie I thought I'd better ask around. You are correct, it is a 1/2 mile SB.

Well it depends on your cam shaft and the track design Is it like DesMoines long straightaways and tight corners or is it like Oskaloosa wide sweeping corners
If you are running a solid cam and need to turn around 6800 then put a 543 in if the track is like Osky if its like Desmoines then a 567 is what you will need to run to get the same rpm

for first gear try a 2.27 or a 2.29 that will bring you to a 5.73

or run a 3.73 in 2nd gear for 5.67..

The turns don't look that tight to me, but being new, I'm not really sure. I am using a solid camshaft, but it doesn't give me an rpm range in the specs.
