looking for some ideas on what the best way to run exaust.I am now running open headers on 355.I put some 12" extensions on it and first time I raced the car I had to leave the track in the a main 6 laps left because the floor was so hot it helted all the way through my shoe. They were made out of some kind of thin metal tubing.Whats some ideas on how to run exaust for best performance and sound.

Im not sure if the extensions were the reason for shoe melt down,But I ran the car 2 more races without them And feet were fine.

1. Use a header wrap.
2. Use some insulating material on the floor board.
3. Check your engine for correct air/fuel ratio and ign timing.
4. Get some weniers and chili.

i used diamonplate aluminum and mounted it to tabs about 3/8" off the stock floorboard. this gives you a barrier. also coating the exaust with something like jet hot will help a TON! i wouldnt recommend header wrap because it reduces the life of the header and voids most any header companys warranty.

years back we used to run 90 degree turn downs on the headers to get the heat away and also it did put a little back pressure on the motor so you gained in both respects

I like to angle them towards the sides so I can hear the exhaust "echo" off of any cars that may be on my inside. Since I dont have mirrors its a good indicator of how close that person behind you really is.
