imca says no, what advantage is an alternator except for not having to charge the battery every week?

no IMCA is making it easier for TC.

hei needs 12 plus volts.
a msd box can work at 10 volts.

of course the msd will die some sooner than others.

Is the NO alternator rule for both I-stocks and hobbies? I had originally heard that is was just for hobbies.

It seems this would make more people go to using a msd box and thus much easier for traction control.

I ran an alternator all year with no problems and guess now I will be buying a battery charger.

i have run a hei distributor (dui) for a few years with no alternator and never had a problem.
i have tested battery draw with my msd box vs hei and the hei draws 3 amps at idle and the box draws 9. this was with nothing else on....just ignition.

You cant run alternators in IMCA now? And I thought the claim rule was stupid.

I have ran with and with out. I don't see a prob with out running one just make sure you charge your batt. It isn't like we are running enduro's.
