Recently bought a used race car with a powerglide tranny. High gear has been removed and the previous owner says he put in a torque convertor with a slightly higher stall speed (for faster restarts?) It works fine on the track once rpms are up but it's a pain getting out of the pits, onto the trailer etc. Goes into reverse with no problem, don't have to rev it. Does the convertor only affect forward gear? He also said that he had a problem blowing out the seal around the dipstick tube. What would be causing this? Any ideas on what I should do?

Can't, no direct drives allowed. Must have working convertor.

Im no tranny expert by no means but I did get a 2500 stall converter from Hughs but if you want the skinny on this stuff Scott Miller from TCI transmissions is the man you need to talk to. Eddie

For circle track racing you want LOWER stall not higher. You might also want the tranny checked for band adjustment and pump pressure. It may be time for a refresh

Glides done searches on here about a year or so ago and general consensus was a 2500 stall converter or least thats what I read. Eddie
