Here's my question.Running a 3200# street stock on a 3/8 banked clay track,g-60 American Racer tire rule,hyd cam,iron heads{must be factory production},4bbl carb,any dual plane manifold,what would you build,383 or 406? We are trying to keep our engine budget to $1500-$1800. Probably won't turn more than 6500 rpm.Thanks for any help or advice.

I would think if you can build the 406 within your budget then build it!! The more cubes the more power. I have never ran a 406 myself, but I have ran 383's and I love them!! I race against some 406's and I have just as much power as they do, but my rules allow a LOT more than yours do. I know (from my experiences) that 383's have a lot of torque. They can be hard to get a handle on but when compared to a 406 I don't see much difference. With your rules, I'd go with the 406.

I know this will start another great debate but with those rules & that kind of money build a 350 and use the extra money on the heads cam intake combo. nothin kicks hiney like it for the rpms and money used. now being as that is said, watch the naysayers line up like welfare -----'s in the cheese line.
