I've been running a stock powerglide out of a '67 Impala in my Pure Stock for the past 2 1/2 years without a problem. This past saturday night, during a restart, I set the car going into turn 1 and when I got on the gas, the tranny started slipping real bad. There was no indication that there was a problem prior to this. The fluid level was fine, but it just wouldn't lock up. If you revved it up it would pull the car, but it would slip real bad. At low rpm it was fine, like moving through the pits, but when you got on the gas on the track it slipped. Has anyone had this happen before? If so, what was it? I run a torque convertor with this also. Thanks.

I guess I should also add that I run the tranny in low gear. Thanks.

Just a guess but I would say you have some burnt clutches.

Well...after further investigation, the tranny is fine. What had happened is that the splines were sheared off the right side axle, and it was only driving off the left one. So, when I went in the corner, the weight transfered and the wheel spun real easy and seemed like it was in the tranny. I noticed it when we were backing it off the trailer, glad I didn't change the tranny and then notice it.

Now that's certainly an interesting problem. Glad you caught it before replacing a trans!
