We are running a 79 camaro street stock. We put a powerglide tranny in and it is perfect on a 1/4 mile track. We went to a half mile and had way to much gear in second. How can i calculate what rear gear to use. It currently is a gm 10-bolt 2.73 ratio. Thanks

There is a gear calculator in the toolbox section of this forum. Second gear or high in a powerglide is 1:1 so yeah that would really be a dog. We run around 5:30 - 5:50 final drive on a half mile but all tracks are measured different so that may not work for you.

Multiply your rear gear (2.73) x your transmission gear(1.82 or 1.76) to get your final. Thats low in a PG. It only has two gears. (2.73 X 1.76 = 4.80 ,,, 2.73 X 1.82 = 4.97)
