What is correct way to set timing? Never done this before. Motor builder says to set it at 36* at 3000 RPM. He has locked the distributor.

He has already marked 0 and 36 on the balancer.

I have Craftsman gun with the dial.

Is 36* on the gun and 0 on the balancer, the same as 0 on the gun and 36* on the balancer?

All I know is you don't want 36 on the gun and 36 on the balancer - right?

On the 0 dg mark on the balancer, put some red
finger nail polish - i use my wife's. then
on the gun, set the dial to 36 dg. when
the red mark on the balancer lines up with the pointer on the timing chain cover, you are at
36 dg.

if you have a stock cover make sure the pointer is clean enough to find the 0 on it but if you have aftermarket it probally just has the single pointer

Keep BOTH eyes on the balancer every week. The stock pieces have a tendancy to slip.

ez way to make sure there that it hasn't slipped take a hacksaw and cut a line across the whole balancer and paint the groove white then if it slips the line will be offset i missed out on a whole year of race'n because of a slipped balance long story short i could never get the car to run and ate up starters and flexplate like crazy next year bought a new balance haven'thad a problem since
