Was going to replace my steering box, I called two of the biggest junk yards around and neither of them had a Metric round cover 605 in stock.
I thought these were common.
What would be a common box that I could find that would be a good replacement?
In the same or better ratio.
I want to keep power steering.

Basically the same application will take either gear. But, you will have to change the pitman arm also for the new gear to work. The shaft is much larger on the 4 bolt cover gear. The 605 is just about the slowest ratio so you won't really find anything slower.

So I need to look up the part numbers on some of the faster Camero boxes.
Do I need to find one with 3 mounting bolts, or can I use a 4 bolt and only use three?
Not really sure what I'm asking or after, I never had to mess with a steering box before.
So any information will be helpfull.

Here is the part number off my steering box 7826692 and its off a early iroc or z28 camero that has the better ratio. not sure on the year it cam off of, but im takin a guess in the 1980's or so. That number i gave fits on my 1986 buick regal(metric car)
