Does anyone run with a K&N air filter and if you so, do you think it was worth the extra $ ?

Only one you will ever have to buy. You can keep it clean and it will last forever. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I say yes.

I agree with 15a. We dont use the oil on it just keep it rinsed out after every race and you will be good to go. The paper ones that Ive used over the years I cant seem to get the dirt out of them as well as the K&N.

you really should oil it because that it was traps and holds a lot of the dirt. Without the oil you are letting a lot of dirt into your engine unecesarily.

The oil and cloth gauze work together to trap tiny dirt particles. I check the airfilter before every race and clean when the purple turns gray or brown, usually once every two months or so. Only use the recharging kits and don't use compressed air to dry it, just shake XS water out and let it dry for an hour or so or the nite before.
Use a good Outerwears prefilter. The prefilter keeps larger stuff off the filter. It needs to be washed once in a while too. I rinse the prefilter in the parts washer and then in a hot solution of Tide to really clean it.

I have purchased a K&N filter new in box. What should I do from here? Do I need to spray oil on it? Should I spray oil on it for every race? Don't know anything about the maintenace of these filters.
Thanks

If the filter is RED it has the oil on/in it. Get a filter Maintenance kit they cost about $20 and have the cleaner and the oil in them. It is a special oil not just motor oil. Once it is oiled you can run it for several weeks before it needs to be cleaned.
I use a K&N on every thing I own, boat, 4 wheeler, 2 trucks, Suburban, Two racecars and even my lawnmower and I have never had a problem with them.

some people put a thincoating of grease on the top and bottom of filter to complete the seal to keep dirt out somewhat messy but it help i recomened clean filter weekly little time little dollars great protection
we end up using regular grease no problems

Ryan I feel for ya. We ran a Limited LM once and the only thing that survived was my K&N, We lost EVERYTHING!!! Engine block, crank, head, carb, headers, (the engine kept running with a hole in the block because the disconnect switch was smashed into the rollcage and it would not shut off. Make sure if you run an alternator it is wired to the battery only NOT the ignition) rearend, Trans case cracked, chassis and body. The right rear tire was touching the right front tire. But I walked away with my K&N in my hand because the top of the cleaner cover was ripped off.
