I am having a problem selecting a rear gear right now because of a blown engine and a back up that is under powered. Normaly we run 5.25 rears and we are slow now because we don't turn the RPM with this engine. If I put in 5.00 gears will it help me or just slow us down more. We run a big .5 mile track with 12 degree banking, dirt, about 6000 rpm.

We're running a ford 9" and you answered my question about putting a higher gear in it. That was what I thought, but I've been known to guess wrong. So if I put a taller gear in it and increase the RPMs I should have a little more down the chute.

What's the cam powerband in the backup motor? That's the single biggest deciding factor in gear selection. If the cam only wants 5500 and you're turning it 6000, it's slowing you down and dropping RPM (with 5.0 or 4.88 gear) would help overall.

PM or email me and maybe Tim and I can help ya out. Yesterday definitely wasn't I day to be HP limited!!! That track was like a glue strip, I think I let up for about 2 seconds each lap and had it floored for about 18 - 20 sec Turning around 6200-6400 where 5900-6100 is normal.

Oh... and how'd ya like the #10 sandwich at the finish.

I didn't like it at all, it gives me extra work to do when I have plenty of head scratching to do already, I found the biggest problem as far as the power question goes, the clutch has some major slipage going on. That could be 90% of the problem. I'll fix that and see what happens this saturday. Hopefully the "good" engine is a couple of weeks from going back in. Been a very frustrating year so far. I'll talk to you saturday night if I need some guidance.

Come on down. We should be there. I know what ya mean with frustrating. Although I'll take my frustration over what you've had any day. Tim and I just pulled the motor tonight to get a new oil pan, pan gasket and intake gasket on it. Tired of leaking fluid all the time, so out it came and a couple Felpro boxes will be showing up on my doorstep Wednesday. Hopefully this takes care of it for good. ** crosses fingers **.

See ya Saturday, if nothing else we can point ya to a cheap place to get gears.

Oh... and you're not using a stock clutch right? Wayne tried that and it doesn't work very well. At the very least get a Borg & Beck style pressure plate. They're heavy but grip better. Wayne's car has a Ram 3000# plate and a 6 puck sintered disc. It's heavy, but was $75 off Ebay and solved his problem.

No stock clutch, made an adjustment on it last week but went a little to far. I'll set it where it needs to be and Nick will have to adjust. Kind of missed the free oil last week the truck goes through it preety quick.
