Putting together chassis and crew is talking about putting one in.think it might be an overkill how many people out there have one in their car? (middle bar in center of windsheild from halo to dash bar) thanks

having flipped my car last year, it's worth it, and it's not that much weight at all.safety first!

No such thing as overkill in safety put it in and hope you don't need it but if you do it'll be there

Track rules here say we must have them and I won't build a car for anyone or drive without one. Like was mentioned it would stop a tire or anything else and helps hold the top up in the event of a flip. Once you are racing it is like the windsheld screen, you don't even really see it. Even if it is 1" tubing, I would recommend it.

My new chassis had one in it and when we updated the old chassis we put one in it. you can never have too much protection.

The Earnhardt bar was neccesary because of the long span between the left and right cage uprights. The span of the halo on a modified is probably less than half of what a Nextel Cup car is. You may have to climb out the windshield one day.

But, I wouldn't race anything you weren't comfortable in. Do what makes you feel best.

Good luck,

My car allways has one, and I couldnt crawl out the front if I wanted to. Im skinny at 170# but the space between the visor and top of the dash is only 8 inches, not to mention the dash extends in 10 inches under the visor.

I use 1 inch diameter, and bend it to match the front down bars exactly.

i would add it!! i will have to find the pic but a friend crashed his mod and it caught a wall end section almost head on, on that one halo bar and it crushed the car till it hit his helmet. this was a dirtworks mod an the car was going extremly fast and flipped and only was cuaght by this one bar and he was ok afterward. the car was well built and did save his life but if he had an earnhart bar he would have been alot better off. it would have not let the bar and concrete hit him in the head, and it would have probally kicked the car up into the air instead of coming to a stop so quickly.
also on my mod i use 5/8 windshield bars, i have seen sprigns, shocks, bumpers, tires, body parts, and even crank parts, oh yeah driveshafts come flying up, and seen a lead weight break a helment.
so make them strong also.
good luck

The old Nova had one with 1" square bar on each side. The new one has 3, 1/2" square tubes mounted in front of the driver and an Earnhardt bar of 1" round tube. You cant lack on safety by any means plus id hate to see a tire sitting next to me. Eddie
