The seat should be mounted to the cage NOT the car. There should be tubing under the seat with the seat mounted to it. We usually run two bars down the back of the seat curling under the base, we put 2 - 3 cross tubes between these to keep them the same distance apart. The top of the tubes mounts to the cross bar on the cage main hoop. On the bottom we come off of the door bars and go across the front under the leg area of the seat and tie to the 2 down bars. In my car the right tube that comes from the cross bar down under the seat then bends to the left and goes to the door bars in one peice, the secong down bar on the rear goes to under the seat and ties to the first bar where it crosses.

Do you just run the bar coming from the door bar straight horizonally, or do you bend it down so that the seat sits lower? I'm trying to find a way to do this without a pipe bender...

When I get home from work, I will show you how I have mine mounted. The mount is made from 1" square tubing. I build a frame that holds the seat (two pices run down the backside and underneath the seat. They are tied together with two pieces of tubing from left to right) Tell you this PM me your email address and I will send you pics on how I did it. The seat mount has got the mounts for the belts also built into it. They swivel so they are always pulling parrell to their mounting positions. Also do you have a fast internet connection or are you on dialup. Let me know because it will matter with the quality of the pictures.

My car has a loop under the seat that comes off door bars and hooks into the center bar in the back. Then at the top it has a 3" extension off the tube with a 3x6" 1/4" steel plate with holes through it the back mounts too.

When the tube comes off your door bars does it bend down or stay level?

Yea, I'm going to have to sit pretty low too. I'm about 6 feet tall and my head wants to stick out of the top of the roll cage.

Flying Jack, can you please take a few more pictures from inside the car, specifically where it is welded to the door bars? I was thinking about buying that kit, but I was worried I wouldn't be able to get the seat low enough. That would be really, really helpful.

Ill see what I can do but it will be this eve..the seat frame is sitting on the floor brace on the right front... I suspect you could notch the brace and gain another couple of inches...

yeah jack we need to do a little work on our cage and yours looks awsome. Some more pics would be good like under the hood maybe and the passenger side.

Dean, my bottom door bar runs just above the rocker panel and the seat mount bar that comes off of it is straight across to almost the tranny tunnel. I then have one bar that goes straight back along the right side of the seat until it is behind the seat and then bends up to meet the cross bar of the rear hoop. Then there is a short bar with a flat piece attached that comes off that same cross bar to mount the top of the seat (btw the shoulders). I have two tabs mounted on the first bar I described and the seat mounts to them. I also have the crotch belt mount welded to that bar. I'm 6'2" tall and am able to fit in easily with this setup. What will give you trouble is if you mount your seat straight up and down. Put some lean into it and you should be fine.

Is there really that much distance between the bottom of the drivers lower door bar and the frame?Or is it just an illusion??I have got 4 door bars in mine and "stubs"from the bottom of the door bar to the frame.Just an observation.

Dean, seat mount looks like it will do the trick. You should also be able to mount your belts to it too. I just have some observations on the cage that might make it safer. The roof is on, so maybe you already have this bar and I can't see it, but it doesn't appear to be there. You should have a bar that runs from your vertical main bar behind your seat to the hoop that runs along the windshield. This will help protect you if your on your side and somebody hits you in the roof. Yea, I know that's a rare occassion, but I can show you video of it happening at Williams Grove, so it can happen. Also, by the pics it looks like your front supports are laying down at a pretty steep angle where they meet the bar that runs across the windshield. You would make that support much stronger if you run a bar straight up from the top door bar on each side to the point where the upright and windshield bar meet. Finally, you have a bar running diagonally from the lower left hand side of the roll bar to the upper right hand side. You should also have one that goes in the opposite direction, forming an 'X'. These cars are heavy, and you want as much keeping that roof above your head in a rollover as you can.

Dean, please don't take this personally. I've seen many worse cages on the track. It looks like a good cage to start with.

Good luck racing! Hope you have fun. Otherwise, why do it???

Dean: When you install your fourth door-bar, Make sure you run it forward past your front supports, and provide yourself with a bit of foot protection by tying into the frame. I'd hate to see you with a permanent limp..
