A Turbo 350 automatic would be fine in that class. No clutch linkage to mess with, no shifter linkage to mess with. If you run 2nd gear the trans will stay locked up and use the engine as a brake in the corners. Reliability should be the same if you start off with good stuff and not junkyard pulls that you slap in. Our local dirttrack is a big 1/2 with loose rules on factory stocks - 3 of the top 4 cars run manuals and the other runs an automatic - all are extremely fast - your setup is going to make you or break you in a beginner class more then the trans.

I have always run 727 automatics and never really had any trouble, but if I could I'd run a stick. Heat isn't nearly an issue and I'd think you might save a # or 2.

If the rules allow a manual, run that. Make sure your linkages are good tho. Done scab them together and cause yourself problems.

I have no choice but to run an auto. Mine is a junkyard $75 unit and I have had it in my car for 4+ years and never had any trouble. I do only use low though. Durability isnt a big issue with stock stuff until you start pushing big power through them.

the auto will feel like it has more torque out of the corner (converter is a tourque multiplyer) but it will rob more horsepower then a manual, a Manual will let the motor rev faster.

We have seen you race many times this year econo2a and you sure did seem to step it up a notch towards the latter part of the season but then so did others. Very tight racing specialy at the last race was a very close finish for 1-2-3.
I think we have decided to go with the manual tranny. With that decided time to start mocking everything up.
Thanks to all who gave their opinion. I am sure we will be on here with more ? before it is all over
