My car has expanded metal for the windshield screen and I am having a hard time seeing out of it.Guess I'm getting old and can't see. I was wondering what you guys use for full screening and where I can find it. I don't want chicken wire but I need something with holes big enough to at least be able to see through.

I use the same stuff. We got ours at home depot. But it should be available at any hardware store.

The main thing on running mesh is to paint it a dark flat color. Shiny and light paints cause a really bad glare. I have had bad experiance with this also. I went to the 3 or 4 3/8ths bars in front and enjoyed that alot more. easier to see and still keeps flying tires out of your helmet.

I use the small square screen wire, then from the inside out spray paint it black, no problems. Eddie

The side of a shopping cart works well as does a refrigerator rack. Be sure to weld or braze the joints of these again. They are only spot welded and can come loose. Even then have some reinforcement bars behind. Actually I like something a bit heavier. Like a screen made of 3/16" steel rod from home depot. I like it to wrap around some on the right side. Vison is good through 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" openings. Mesh is okay if backed up with enough vertical rods. What ever you do think of what it would take to stop a tire, battery, or shock absorber coming at you at 60 plus mph.

You can also use the shopping cart to screen of the right side of the driver, Sleepy did one in SCR thought it was a great idea. Eddie

That is a good idea on the right side of driver but......i would make it so you can remove it effortlessly. If you get in a wreck and the drivers side is blocked....you need that right side to exit. The chances are slim of that happening....but this is racing and there is always a chance for anything. Great idea tho....when i was running dirt i remeber a few times having a couple big chunks end up coming throught there that nailed me in the shoulder and neck....and made it pretty loud in the helmet lol.

there was a guy killed in a mod here in arkansas by a driveshaft that came out of the car in front of him, maybe you should keep the expanded metal for your winshield screen, it should stop something like that from coming thru, just paint it flat black and youll be aight

Well here's what I've decided to do. I cut some of the diamonds out of the expanded metal. Every other one. Then I welded in 3 vertical pieces of rebar from the front of the halo to the dash crossbar. Painted it flat black. I can see alot better now and I think it's pretty good protection.

My exact thoughts Danger, the right side would have to be removable so that you could escape need be, ive got a shopping cart that im messing with now just to see what I can come up with. Eddie

The screen shouldn't close off the right side. It can be winged out at a 45 degree angle. Run a string from the front right post of the cage to the drivers helmet. The screen only deeds to be that long. There should be plent of escape room this way.
