my metric came with the th 350
my friend had a 700 r-4 in it when we bought it! it even had the (od) on the column
we even won a bet from a guy who thought he knew it all he told us we was full-o-beans we bet him 100 then he paid us when we showed him the shifter indicator on the dash board

Trannies with "Metric" embossed on the pan are 3 speed (metric) 200 transmissions the ratios are close to a turbo 350 but I don't recall exactly what they are.

there was an article in hot rod mag a few years back that had ALL the auto gear ratios for gm trannys, wish i could find it because there are more than one set of ratios for an 200 metric i have one here out of a 78 malibu supposedly that has a lower 2nd gear than my 1.82 glide does, this is a fact i had to run 3.23 with the metric and i'm now running 3.42s with the glide same motor tires everything else just different trannys and i'm turning the same basic rpm, i believe what i read said that some of the metric trannys had a 1.96 2nd gear ratio but don't hold me on that, i'd really like to know if anybody could find out cause the tranny is in my dads car now and i actually think i liked the metric better or atleast as well as the glide

yea i know this site has them but unless this tranny is a 1 off freak thing then there are 200 metrics with a diff gear ratio in them there is no way poss that this thing has a 1.48 or even a 1.52 2nd gear in it, i turned in the high 6g low 7g range with 3.23 on a 3/8ths track 2 diff tracks actually one of the tracks the 3.23 was little too much due to the d shaped back straight and banking while the other worked perfect the same as i do with the glide and 3.42, like i said same tires motor cam everything, i tried the 3.42 with the metric tranny and it was too much i was running out just passed the halfway point of the straight, the 3.23 worked perfect, i know for a fact that the hotrod mag had the gearing listed for this tranny and it was in the 1.90ish range, i'm not saying the guide on here is wrong i believe that there are prob 2 diff gear ratios avaliable, i'm not 100 percent sure where mine originally came from i got it on a trade from a friend of a friend who took it out of his malibu that he was street racing soo it actually coulda been outta anything,

btw the only reason i still don't use it was cause we switched to a tci circlematic which i promptly grenanded twice in 7 weeks, i sold the 200 to my dad to finance the rebuild of the glide after the first burn up, after the 2nd one i thru the **** thing in the shed and pulled out a stock glide that had been in storage for 9 years it had originally been rubulit in 89 and only used a few times, a year later it's still going strong, the metric though i ran that for 2 seasons the way it was when i got itactually it had been sitting outside uncovered for 6-7 years in the ny winter before i used it, i changed filter and gasket and s****ed the moss off of the case and ran it with no cooler with no probs for 2 seasons, had it rebuilt and got a convertor for it and ran it for another season b4 i tried the dd route, as long as you are not shifting these trannys they will hold up fine, i used to pull on the track in first and manually shift to 2nd once i was on the track, the only time it came outta 2nd was if you had to stop completely other than that it just stayed in 2nd at all times, on the street these trannys were weak because of the shifting, the don't handle shifts under power like the 350 does
