Does anyone know if a .500 lift (intake and exhaust) cam would be good in 350 chevy for a 83 monte carlo with a turbo 350 tranny and 3.08 gears running on a 3/8 mild track?

for all you do, this mud's for you

I run a .488 on a 1/3 mile with th350 in second and 3.73's on 80" tires. My cam is rated for 3500-6500 RPM's, a .500 sure would hurt you i think with 3.08s. You need more gear if running a big cam like that. You need 3.90's or 4.11's. thats what we use to run on the 3/8ths track we use to race at with the .488. Good luck.

Duration is what determines the cam's powerband. Lift doesn't mean anything in that respect.

For instance, a .530" lift cam with 230* duration will have a vastly different powerband than a .500" lift cam with 246* duration.

On a 3/8, I run a turbo 350 in low with 256 gears =607 85 in tires = 5800rpms. Crane makes a good little 501 lift cam that works good in a 350 and does not cost to much.
