Just jack up one side of car if its not a locked rearend and mark the wheel and the yoke on the driveline. Turn wheel and see how many times drive shaft or yoke turns with one turn of the wheel. Example if the drive shaft turns 3 times and the tire once you have 3.00 rear gear. Have a good one and put it too the floor.

it will have 2 different numbers on both ring, and also the pinion if it's stock. example: 41:11, 41 divided by 11=373. The numbers will show 372.7272727273, just round it to the nearest tenth, 373.

Well great idea racer17 but i was really answering the ? of junkyard rearends. Not every junk yard is going to let you run around there yard pulling off rear covers and besides alot of work. He could get close by doing what i said and then do what you added to get his exact gear. Good luck in your search.
