i have never done more on a tranny than to change a filter so i need to know what needs to be replaced now that i have a leak at the tail of my tranny where the driveshaft slides in. is there some type of seal in the tailshaft or am i having problems elsewhere?

Theres no need to drain the tranny to change the back seal. As long as your car is on a level surface and the fluid is not over filled you will not loose more than a pint out of the back. Just pull the yoke out and pry the seal out and tap in a new one.

Make sure the end of your driveshaft isnt rusted where the seal rides on it or you will mess up the new seal and still have a leak..

It will require a little banging to get the old seal out...do what ever it takes to get it out..might want to take it with you to get a new one so they match up correctly..I changed mine and never had any problem with fluid coming out..
