I have searched for a few hours now and have found a few threads that touch the subject.

I am running a k&n element and outerwears prefilters.

We had a power steering leak last year, covered our prefilters on the valve cover and breather.

My question is this.....
What is the best way to care for these products??

I have heard both sides of the story on the element. For and against oiling.

Please sound off.

Clean the K&N with there cleaning kit, I had Moroso breathers on my valve covers and would clean them with brake cleaner. Eddie

I tap the dirt out of my filter (Holley, K&N.. same thing) every week. Then, if it looks like the dirt's building up, I soak it in the cleaner and washer it out with warm water. It's important to rinse it from the inside out with the water as hot as possible and on full blast. Reoil it lightly. Too much oil will attract dirt. You want even to filter, but not so much it gums up in 5 minutes.

I wash mine out in a mixture of "Purple Power" and water. One trick I use is to purchase the wrist sweat bands at Wally World and slip them over the filters. I can keep the element cleaner laongr when using them.

I thought you were suppost to use cold water as warm or hot water will shrink the cottor in the filters? any truth to that?

Thanks guys.
I washed the prefilters in the washing machine and bought one of the recharge kits for the element.

We used dish soap to clean the power steering fluid out of the outerwear pre-filters. And cleaned the K&N filter per their instructions with their cleaner.
