Have you checked the timing of the motor? It is probably set to high.

My car had about the same problem, wouldnt start back after it had been running and sounded different when trying to start back. I backed the timing down from 36 to 32 and it starts fine now.

Ive tried most of these suggestions, the starter was not so hot that I couldnt put My hand on it, after running for 15 minutes, and reaching a temp of 200.The battery cables coming from the trunk are #2gauge.Im working on getting a ground to the frame in the trunk, and under the hood. I have a Ford solinoid under the hood, but its just along for the ride. Ive thought about wiring it so I can spin the motor, then hit the juice.Thats next. Thanks for all suggestions! The Brother

I did not use a Ford solinoid. I ran a hot wire to the starter button, then to the solinoid. Run a hot wire to a toggle switch then to distributor. Push the starter button get engine turning over then flip toggle switch. I used a 40 amp toggle and #10, or #8 wire, I forget, anyways, it was the next size bigger than the factory GM wiring.
