Bought a used carrier with 3.73s I am going to put in my car. What all do I need to replace while I am in there. So far I have got:
2 Carrier Bearings (LM501349)
2 Carrier Bearing Races (LM501314)
1 Outer Pinion Bearing (M86649)
1 Outer Pinion Bearing Race (M86610)
1 Inner Pinion Bearing (HM89249)
1 Inner Pinion Bearing Race (HM89210
1 Pinion Seal (8610)

I listed the part number out beside incase anyone thinks they will not work in my 86 Monte Carlo 7.5 rear end, I am not sure if the seal is right myself, but all the bearing and race numbers were the numbers I got off of the bearings on the used carrier etc...I bought, so hopefully they will work. If anyone has any other info that would help, that would be great.
THANKS

What was the carrier out of? If it was in a metric it has one pinion bearing on it, if it was in a s10 it has a different pinion bearing. I don't remember the numbers off the top of my head but you will need to check that.

You can either check with a parts store for the correct bearing numbers and make sure that is what you got for the metric rear end, or rip it apart and check the old bearings and make sure the new ones are the same. Other than that the rest is easy, just put back in your rearend what you took out and it will work fine. Good luck

Honestly, I just use all the old bearings unless they show damage. Always replace seals, and crush collar though. As far as the S-10 being different I have not had that experience. The only 7.5 that has a different rear pinion bearing that I know of is the 1978 (first year)

You guys must be lucky, I have done a few and all had different pinion bearings and races and they all came out of s10's. Just check before you install and you'll be fine I guess is the moral to the story.

The newer S-10's like 94 and up have 7 5/8" R & P not 7 1/2" the whole carrier is different and will not work very well in a 7 1/2 housing.

S10' are leaf springs housings, the Monte is a coil spring. If the mounts have been changed you would notice.Call a Chevy dealer and give them the number off of the axle tube. It's stamped on the top. Can't remember which side, they'll tell you make, year and model. You can't go wrong with the old bearing numbers.

81-88 monte ss had a 7 5/8 the only difference in the newer s-10 is the axle spline is 28 not 26...gears will work
the 7 1/2 and 7 5/8 gears will interchange also

and i have had different pinion bearings on mid 80's metric axles

put the same # bearings back in that came out and you'll be fine
drive hard or drive home
