Should I keep the heat shield on the intake manifold? While I was inspecting the manifold, I discovered huge carbon deposits under the heat shield. I've got it cleaned up, but I was wondering if I should remove the heat shield.

If you block off your heat risers you don't need the heat shield.

It will help a little to keep the manifold cooler. Hot oil slashes up on it, I would rather it slashed up on that sheild then on the manifold. Its not going to help a lot, but some is better then none. but thats my opinion.

On another note, there was a guy at our track who was disqualified for not having that sheild on. During a tear down inspection, the tech's saw it was missing and DQ'ed him for the year! Lost all his points and was suspended for 2 weeks. So if your track is picky on rules, leave it on there...
