How do I wire in a switch to bypass the ignition key in a cavalier. I just need one switch and a pushbutton to start it, but there is 2 plugs on the bottom of the column. All unnessary eiring has been eliminated, all thats left is what is needed to run the computer.

Get a twelve volt test light, the one with a ground clamp and a probe with the bulb inside. Find a good place to ground the probe and then start checking the wires at the connectors on the column.

FIRST you are looking for a wire that has contant power this would be the one to hook to the switch on one side, you can also tap into this for the starter button power.( I prefer to tap into the hot lead at the switch by making a short jumper lead that you can just connect the two switches.)
SECOND test for a wire on the column that comes on when the the key is turned to the run/on position. Hook the other side of the toggle switch to this wire. This will provide the power on/off.
THIRD test for a wire that comes on when the key is turned to the start position. this wire will be hooked to the other side of the starter button.

This will provide the power to run the car without the key, BUT you still have the column steering lock to deal with, this I cannot help with as I am not familiar with a Cavalier steering column. It may require the column to be taken appart.?
