This may be a stupid question but.......This season I will be running a '76 T-bird, 351W, c4, 9" rear on 1/4 mile. I want to run a 6.50 gear but rules are vague for aftermarket gears so will be keeping gearing to myself. Someone told me that this tall a gear will give off a distinctive sound. True or not True? No one runs them here so I wouldn't know.

6:50 gear set is pretty short gear. A detectable noise I doubt. You'll be turning more RPM then the others, but I doubt tech would notice. If they ask, just tell them it's a cam choice and header/manifold combo giving the car a different sound. It's hard to disprove. IF they ask where you got the cam? tell them you got it from me! I'll lie for ya.

Keep in mind all the tech guy has to do is turn the tire 1 time and count how many times the driveshaft spins. This gives your 6.50 gear away. If they have say a 5.56 gear rule, then use the 5.56 for ballast and run the 6.50 for powering the car.

There is no sound that is given off by the gears, but like was said above, its pretty easy to check the gear ratio, so I wouldn't mess around with it if it is regulated at your track. It is very easy to hear a RPM differences

Hi there well we run a 6.50 with same set up as you have. Have never heard of a gear rule simply because most chevys or alot of chevys run a power glide and run it in first gear so maybe you need to get the rules changed. Not many of us ford guys at the track lol Last year there were me and on other ford at are track that is in the street stock class and about 65 chevys lol Steve Dupree PS oh i also have set of 6.50 set up in pumpkin ready to put in if interested. 28 spline 350.00 if interested email me at geminikid1 at yahoo

Yeah, I'll go with the 6.50's. Ran in first last year and didn't like it. Steve, do you put a shift kit in the c4 to keep it from shifting down or does disconnecting the kick down rod take care of it?

Good morning no we have a good kit in it with a kevlar band. Are,s will also kick down if we leave it in drive but never had it come into play during a race if they throw a caution it might kick down in second but i really like that it cools the car off alot faster. I dont no how to do it but i would love to eliminate all the gears except 3rd and reverse so it didnt have to turn all those parts. Well have a good one Steve Dupree
