Hello again.
I have a few questions. I found a metric Buick Regal that looks promising, but it has a V6. Will a V8 (305 or 350) fit in the stock V6 mounts?

Does a 305 c.i. with about an aftermarket carb (about 650 cfm or so) have enough power with stock heads for a 1/4 to 3/8 mile dirt clay? -Stupid question- would the V6 have enough power?

-Odd question- I had a 305 and Chevy tranny (Turbo 350 I think) given to me; they're currently sitting in a 1983 G20 van. Would the tranny fit in the Buick? I've heard that a van transmission is different. I haven't had the opportunity to crawl under the van to check it.

BTW, I know I will have a lot of fun pulling the engine out of the van.

Thanks in advance.

remember that not all vans had long shaft trans some had shortshaft's in them too
so double check what you have

on the motor mounts if your rules allow them try using solid mounts it will cost you another $20 but it makes everything more solid.

on the 305 if you are running pure stock maybe you could use the heads check out there numbers. other than that i would gut the block and use it as a lighter weight mock up for building the car. its a great engine for last place.

cant help you on the trani i run 3spd manuals.

Well first off, anything is possible with racers, because you have to build, cut, modify about everything you do. The 305 heads may be a keeper (if they are HOs) after a little cleaning is done to them (like taken to a shop and have them checked etc....) A long tail th350 is what I am going to run, you will have to have the driveshaft cut down some and I had to move the tranny mount up a good bit.

We raced a V-6 until we could afford a V-8, the 6 ran great and cornered really well. We didn't have the money in it like we needed to run with the 8's but if you can spend some money to get the horsepower out of the 6, the 6er is about 200lbs lighter than the 8 and the car will corner much better than the 8's. we would pass the 8's in the corner then lose it back on the straightaway. the simple fact and problem is the faster you want to go with the 6 the more money it will cost.

heck i ran a (stock) 305 for a while after my 350 broke a rod and i didnt have another 350 and i actually ran pretty good. for a beginer i would reccomend a 305 on such short tracks simply because most shorter tracks are not horsepower tracks but more of handeling tracks. on 1/4 and 3/8 tracks the turns are a lot longer than the straights and when you are in the corners that long you need to spend your money on chassis. more so than motor.

just my two cents
