I know it's been asked, but what is the difference between the long and short tailshafts? Also, I have one of each, and the long tailshaft has a cracked case. I want to use the innerds from that one to rebuild my one that isn't cracked. The innerds are good on the cracked case and it has a manual valvebody, I've had the pump out of it and what I could see looked clean. I have Ron Simmons' book on the TH 350 but I can't find where it addresses swapping the tailshafts. Any ideas or bits of advice anyone?

ther are some differences but you should be able to swap the guts.Your book should tell you about thrust washers or bearings in some places.you might have to change the rear ring gear depending on if you have a bearing or washer under the rear planet, other than that it should be a piece of cake.you can use either set up long as you put the right parts together.
