Not to sound naive but... I run a 3/8 mile low bank track, I made the last for races this year, but can't figure out what gear ratio to go with... most guys use a 350 turbo trans and leave it in 1 st. gear with a 273 in the rearend.(they get about 6000 rpm's) Iuse the metric 200 r 4 with a 3.08 in back(i get about 43oo rpm's)
but i leave it in 2 nd. gear...Is better to stay in 1 st or second? should i get away from the metric all together?...
any help to a new racer appreciated...

I think a 200 r 4 is an overdrive trans if this is the case junk it and go with the 350 turbo or get a metric 200 it will give you about 200 more r's in first than the 350. but beware it is a little trans!!! for a heavy car Everyone told me it was a fuseable link but I ran one in a 3600 pound car 3 seasons with no problems..

Or you could take the 350 to a tranny shop and tell them to take 2nd gear clutches and piston out of it. This cuts down on drag. Race it in low, the lower gearsets are way easier to find than 4.10
