Sounds to me like an oiling problem. At some point around the track during braking, cornering or acceleration, the oil pickup is not getting oil. The best solution is an accumulater or a 6-8 qt. gated pan. The accumulaters wotk well and also give an extra 3 qts. of oil capacity.

I agree, sounds like you are running out of oil and if the pan and pickup is still stock that is most likely what is happening, get a good setup to keep the oil there, like deep pan with trap door or something in that order, windage tray, don't forget to change the pickup, got to keep the oil where it need's to be.

WHAT OIL ARE YOU RUNNING? USE LUCAS OIL STABILIZER GREAT STUFF. AS FOR SPECIAL PANS, ACCUMULATORS,AND WINDAGE TRAYS ON A PURE STOCK I THINK IT IS A WASTE OF MONEY I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY MOTOR PROBLEMS WITH A STOCK PAN AND PICK UP TUBE ON A PURE STOCK MOTOR, PROBLEMS COME FROM OTHER THINGS USUALLY A CLEARANCE PROBLEM OR A PART FAILS.

sounds like you need to check out the bottom end before you shove it in...
make sure that everything looks good pull a couple of rod caps and main caps to check bearings and check crank thrust also

remember that you get what you pay for
