I'm running a stock 351w with a final gear ratio of 6.14. We're turning the engine at about 5200 and getting beat coming out of the turns. I've got a choice to change gears to either a 6.47 or the next step up is to 7.19. According to the calculator on this site, the 7.19 would turn my engine around 6100 rpm's. Can this engine handle this? The 6.47 would only give me a couple hundred more rpm's and I don't know if it's enough to beat the fast cars. We're taking a lot of 2nds and thirds and I'm trying to get to the front, but don't want to blow up.

stock i wouldn't turn over 6000 but the real question is does your cam make any more power up there if not than you are wasting your time and turning your motor for nothing.
if your cam peaks at 4500 and drops off than turning your motor 5100 or even 6000 it doesn't make any more power so it would make you faster to drop back in ratio to a 5something to loose rpm but be in your hp and torque band that will make you faster not turning more rpm
so what you might want to do is some research on a different cam to make the power where you want it

Being that its a ford motor, I would say 2,500 tops. j/k

What cam are you running maybe you should try advancing it.That would bring your power band down
