I am looking to build a new car for next year and would really like it to be a Ford. I was told that the 80's crown victorias make a good car, but they seem big to me. So I am thinking about using a 80's T-Bird and would like to if they work well

I wouldn't rule out an LTD II if you have access to them.

This is my 10th year to race and I have ran a mid 80's model full frame LTD during 8 of those years. We are currently running an 85 T-Bird. I have won many races and a championship with the LTD. The LTD will make an excellent car for you and it will take some hard licks too. The T-Bird will be a little lighter and will make an excellent car as well. The only downfall for the T-Bird is the strut front end but I must say that we have had no problems with ours and that counts taking a hard lick to the wall with the right front. You can't go wrong either way.

Around here the Ford's are Crown Vics cut down to 108" with T-bird - and now Tarus -bodies. They always do well! I've heard their front suspension geometry is very similar to a Camaro.

Good Luck!

I would go with the LTD Crown Vic. I run an 86 model and love it. Stock length chasis at 114" my rules don't allow shorting. Even thought its a full frame car it still weights 3000lbs, which I think is quite respectable. I have ran a 70's montego with the rear steer and didn't have a lot of luck. The front end on LTD cars are great stock! One more great thing about these cars is there is tons on parts in the yards, with everyone choosing bowtie's you get to be pretty picky with what you take home.

This is my first year at racing and I decided to go with a '82 Crown Victoria that was given to me. It has been a very big learning experience, but we keep getting the car faster each week. The car handles great, it is just a little heavy. It is capable of running with the Monte Carlo and Camaros with the right setup. It is a great learning car. It will take a lot of abuse and never hurt it. Much better built than the GM Metric cars. If you choose the right motor combination you can put out just as much power as any of the GM guys. Parts are very easy to find for the LTD as well.

yea you can build a ford to make as much power as a chevy, but on the downside you can build 5 chevy's for the cost of your 1 ford

chevy 4 ever LOL :-)

i'm with ford5. in the long run, fords are less expensive. the cost to build them is less than it used to be and they live longer.

hp for hp and dollar for dollar (engines only) a chevy is less $ anyday of the week
and remember it takes just as much gas to run a ford as it does a chevy

but in the sake of argument we are all having fun or at least trying too

Toolman have put together both and my 302 based motor was doing so good this year the whiners kept whining until I was tossed out of the class. The boys that bought all this brezinski stuff couldn't handle this Ford motor that cost half of what theres did smoking them. Some of them have half of my motor cost in there intake and exhaust manifolds .cheaper I don't think so .whats winning at the track I run is money not chevies.I think they wrap up about 1400.00 in manifolds alone.

akadirtracer7 I hear ya loud and clear! seen the same scene round here. Lots of Chebbie guys can't take it when a Blue Oval beats them LOL so they always justify their defeat by claiming we Ford guys spend double the money....haha if some only knew........
Keep on doing it to them... its all good!

Guess you have to be there to see it. There is no fords in our class either so never been beat by one,BUT,if they are that good and cheap would be interested in getting the high and low on this monster ford.

toolman, i'm gonna go easy on you because i have a hunch that you're from a small pond.

small ponds only have chevy fish. the dirt forum is fairly large lake and has a few ford fish lurking about. be careful when swimming near ford fish. some of the ford fish are pretty big and they get that way from eating chevy fish.

braaap! excuse me!

yea i run figure 8's here in iowa i see it all but nothing can keep up with my chevy in my class.
i just like stirring some **** with ford guys... a friend of mine races figure 8's he is a die hard ford guy but admits that he races a chevy because it is cheaper... then if he is around other ford guys he says that he don't want to tear up any fords and put them out of commission LOL

i love chevy but i have to admit that pure stock at the track i race has been dominated by a ford for 2 years. i run mini but i wanna build a pure im thinking either a ford or dodge.
