Automatic or manual tranny? If it's automatic, what is it, 350 turbo or powerglide?

Hey, that's not fair. It could be a C-4.

I would go down to a 2.41 and see what your turning then. If your still not at the 6000 range then I'd definitely look for more horses in the motor. I used to run a turbo 350 with 2.41 gears and pulled around 6000-6300 rpm's. But I have a beefed up motor to do it. Another thing will be seat time, too. Most people will not go out and get everything out of the car the first time out. I know I didn't.

Stick with the gears that you have. We run the same type track and most guys would kill for them gears. Most of the guys running the same setup as you are pushing aroung 6000 RPM. I don't believe your gears are your problem.

ok, here is what my current motor consists of: The motor is a 350 punched 30 over. I blew the car up about the first night, so I bought a totally new short block from Dakota Engine Builders, so the block only has a few races on it. The pistons are nothing special, just a set of lightweight
pistons, and are all good. The heads are 993s? with all new (midseason) intake valves and 600 lift springs. Honestly I
cannot tell you what the cam is, all i was told is that it works! I guess it is his ex-owners little secret or something.

i was told that it should turn about 5800 rpms, it could have been the inexperience in the new car or maybe some old gas??
