Haveta agree with the C4.

A C6 is just too big and heavy. An AOD is worse cause they're big, heavy and durable as a toothpick. A properly prepped C4 can anything up to a moderate big block. Although pricey, J&W makes Ultrabell's to adapt C4's to big blocks.

you would want to definently use a C-4, best bet is to try to find an older one (70's) that has the smaller 11 inch convertor\bellhousing package. this will save you a bit of reciprocating weight, and yes, the C-4 is quite capable of holding up to the task. ....ford5

Anyone run a stock c4 behind a 500+hp 408 in a 3500lb car? I've been worried it might not hold up. c4 was 72 model with under 60k. Worked perfect behind nearly stock 351w.

I don't think any stock tranny would live behind that motor. At the least, pull the pan and clean it out, put a shift kit in and a deep pan wouldn't hurt.

The C4 in my '71 Mustang behind a stock 302 4bbl is pretty sloppy. It wouldn't stand a chance behind a high HP motor. I know of read of C4's being prepped for 800hp drag motors, but I think that gets into a lot of aftermarket parts.

And isn't a C4 less parasitic than a TH350? I thought it went Powerglide, C4, TH350, TF 904, TH400, TF 727 and C6 from least power robbing to most power robbing.
