OK, the wife and her cousin want to race a 2-man cruiser, the rule is you have to run anything but a chevy motor so i have chosen a pontiac 350 but you have to run with a plug broken off and the plug wire grounded to the body. How do you make the most power in this situation?

I've got a 455 buick, you can't tell if you loose a plug wire or two..lol,just make sure your wife is on the drivers side, the one on the passenger side seems to take the brunt of it in a crash.

MY BEST ADVICE MAKE SURE THE 7 WIRES ARE NEW. BUY A FOULER EXTENTION. THEY ARE USE TO EXTEND PLUGS ON OIL BURNING ENGINES. TAKE THE EXTENTION AND DRILL HOLES TO ALLOW THE CYLINDER PRESSURE TO GET OUTOF THE CYLINDER NOT BEING USED. THAT WILL LET THE ENGINE TURN MORE FREELY.

eljojo is right. by leaving the intake valve in and closed, you won't be wasting air and fuel in that cylinder and by removing the exhaust valve, you will free up some HP by not having to compress the air in that cylinder for no reason.

you will want to somehow plug the exhaust guide hole so you're not pumping air into the crankcase. i'd also use a "bad" plug wire on the one that has to be grounded to the frame. you can make one by cutting the terminal off and crimping on another terminal without the wire folded underneath it.

That sounds like a lot of work, fellas. Does it have to be grounded to the body?? In my Ford we always ran the 8th plug wire up to the alternator bracket and put a plug in it to dissipate the spark. We had a $350 claim too so we never did any of the closing ports and such. Ignition timing is another key. We ran (and won with) an Olds 350, Pontiac 350, Pontiac 301, Buick 307, and most of all a Ford 351W. More than power, you need communication and teamwork.

With a rule like that I can only think that they are trying to keep speed down and injuries to a minimum. Sounds kind of crazy to me.

That's exactly right! We are only allowed one loop at a few tracks for a roll bar. Even running on only 7 we have gotten up to around 75 - 80 mph on a half mile track. That wall isn't very forgiving at that speed...trust me. On occasion it actually helps. If it is real muddy, it is easier to get traction without wheel spin.
