fairmonts use a "fox" chassis very similiar to a mustang only with a 106" wheelbase, i believe. no 9" and i believe they all came with either a I-6 or a v-6.

some fairmonts came with 2.3L and some (very few) came with v-8s..that includes the sister car Zephyer (sp.?)

Ya, there were a few very very rare Zephyer's with a 2.3 turbo borrowed from the Muskrat of that time. A friend of mine had an '80 turbo 2.3. There were something like 20 of them made that year.

The 302 models were actually rather common... maybe classified as 'unusual' but there were plenty around. I think they had an 8.8 rear where the 6's and 4's had a 7.5" rear. We had a '78 Fairmont way back in the day... quite the sleeper. Mom like 'racing' people in it. Not all that fast by today's standard, but still ran better than your typical square block car of the smog era.
