I currently run a 350 with 2.73 gears and I run in low. If I ran in 3rd gear and 700 gears will it give me more power and be easier on the tranny?

Also was wondering if any one can tell me how to figure the final ratio?

when figuring final drive ratio in high gear the answer is your reargear emample 700 cause 3rd in 350 and 3speeds is 1-1ratio. if your running a 7.5 metric rear u cant get a low enough gear to run drive. 2nd gear in a 350 is 1.52-1 ratio so i run second with 3.42 or 3.73 in rear u may need 4-11 i willpost formula for figuring final drive when i find the book some say add trnny gear ratio and rear ratio but thats not true.i cant find my book

multiply the 2 together. A th350 in second with 3.73 gears comes out to 5.67. The 4.10's will get you down to 6.23. these are the two combo's I used before I went to a nine inch and a glide.

I am good from the middle to the end of the straight, but I'm sluggish out of the corner. My car really gets with it half way, but I have to really work hard in the corners. I like the top end speed but was wondering if I ran high gear if that would give me anymore horse to get out of the corner. I am considering running one gear lower to get the little extra out of the corner as I am only running 55 to 5800 rpm. So I have a little room to work for rpm.

Racer17, I am set up to run 68 to 7. But I try to run less rpm just to save on the motor and also once in the lead I can really rip. This rearend deal is something new to me. Just trying to find an edge. I think I'm going to set one car up with a 9 inch and try this deal. We run 4 cars so have plenty to experiment with.

THE BEST WAY TO SEE IF IT WOULD HELP YOU WOULD BE TO RUN SOME SHORTER TIRES, IF YOU HAVE ANY. THAT WOULD SAVE YOU SOME MONEY ON NEW GEARS. THE 686 TO THE 700 IS NOT A LOT, SO IF YOU HAD A COUPLE TIRES THAT WERE A COUPLE INCHES SHORTER WOULD TELL YOU A LOT.
