I have installed two Mini-Spools in 7.5" GM 10 bolt rearends. We did this after having to reweld the spider gears every other week. We ran the first one only about 1/2 of a season before it was showing MAJOR wear. We replaced it with one from Speedway and ran it a whole season and it still looks great. No grinding was required to install either one. As for the axle end-play; if you can find the right spider-gear shims and make the mini-spool fit tight, it will take out most of the axle end-play.

I think the grinding you heard about is from an article Sleepy did in SCR. He says to save the thin metal shims behind the spyder gears. These shims have a lip, so you have to grind on the blocks in the mini spool to get them to fit. Might try SCR's web site to find the article. Anyway I used a drill press with a bullet shaped grinding stone to open the top a bit, doesn't take much. Hope this helps....loojack
