eddie,I am not really up on 3 speeds, but what Ive been told, if there are lines on the input shaft they desinate the gear ratio of the transmision,no lines is standard, 2 lines I think are lower, and not sure after that. good luck and let us know what you find out.........Jim

Eddie, there's a myth that the grooves on the input shaft will tell you...but if someone had rebuilt the tranny, you've got an inaccurate ratio number. Best way I have found is to shift it into second and put a paint mark on the input and the output shaft. Rotate the input shaft and count revolutions. (I put a mark on the floor------ one for one) Put a mark on the output shaft and count the revolutions. After you have ten revolutions of the input-you'll have a count of the revolutions of the output. That will give you an accurate ratio number. Hope this helps.

How do you tell the difference between the 350 and 250 transmissions? I heard something about where the modulator valve is located?

the 250 usually says metric on the pan.

also it has a electric plug on the drivers side that a 350 doesnt.

250 is worthless.

If you don't have any luck counting revolutions, go to myour local tranny shop and ask them. And while you're there, hit them up for sponsorship.

the 250 has a band adjuster on top right side of the case and 350 doesn't. If it has a electrical connector it might be a 350 c 1980 and up.
