We busted a set of welded spider gears last weekend, direct hit in the L.R. It's easy enough to find another one & weld it, but my old man keeps talking about "squared" inserts that he used to use on his 9" Ford rearends way back when.

He said they slid into the spider gears and were squared on the outside (thus locking them). Has anyone else heard of these (I plead ignorance) and, if so, are they available for a piddly GM 7.5" 10-bolt? Thanks much.

Midwest motorsports amoung others sell them. Years ago I bought some from speedway. Take a look at the axle if you took a hit big enough to snap the weld. They make a nice mini spool for that rear as well that is alot better than the square spiders.

Thanks for the reply.

The left axle is bent and, if the 50-ton press doesn't straighten 'er out enough to become a spare, it'll soon hit the scrap pile.
