I have a 78 nova that I am having problems with shock travel, we have to run stock shocks. When I bolt them on I have to jack the rear end way up... this seems to preload the springs, so when I let the car down it is stiff as heck. I am not allowed to relocate the shock mount... anyone else have this problem?

you need to put shock extensions on the top of the shocks. they sell them almost anywere.

they will give you 2 inches.

im assuming your running either aftermarket rear 6.5 inch arch springs or no rear weight. or both .

They are racing springs... I just made some extensions for it.. 2" just worried that the 5/16 bolt will hold up to the stress.. thanks for the reply...

Pigpen, we have a ride height rule at our tarck and I had to make extensoins for my rear shocks. B sure that you have at least four inches of travel out on the left side and at least four inches in on the right. If you run out of shock travel your car will NOT handle!

Make sure the rules specify stock shocks. If they say "stock appearing" then you can get racing shocks that appear stock. That way you aren't breaking any rules and you are using shocks meant for racing.
