Need to decide this week what tires to run. MUST run DOT tires (rules state NO racing tires)on my 2300# car with 15x8 wheels.
General consensus seems to be either Firestone Firehawks or Cooper Cobras.

My questions are:

(1) Which Firehawks? The SS20 or the Indys? Which Cobras?
(2) What should one look for, in general, when deciding on DOT tires? Those with a low mileage warranty rating, which I guess would signify a soft tire?
(3) What tread pattern?
(4) Anyone ever head of a “Super CT Sport Radial 60” tire?

If so, do you know who sells them? Who makes them? The local Class champion 2 or 3 years running runs these, said they’re some of the softest he’s had. He did know where they came from as his sponsor picked them up.

Thanks and take care

The treadwear rating on the side will tell you some about how soft they are, some of the higher mileage tires will be high say 400 rating, try to stay low say a 200-300 wear rating for a softer tire.

Gould, couple of questions if I may please:
1) who sells the kuhmos
2) are you related to the Goulds that race in the Houston and Oklahomo areas? (just curous)

The rules at the track I will primarily run at (Battleground) states: "D.O.T tires only. No racing tires allowed." What you're refering to are the SIMS/ULMA sanctioned tracks.

So I don't believe I can. Would (will?) if I can though. Going to talk to track promoter to clarrify.

Nate, I just looked at their web site. I didn't see any reference to Hoosiers. Appreciate the heads up though, so I'll call the track promoter for confirmation.

Next time you're at the track, look for #57 (not #57S), a red & yellow limited, and say hello. Hope to debut on 5/10.

Any suggestions for a 15X7 DOT tire in either a 205/70 or 205/75?? That what we have to run at NRP.

Hoosier makes a D.O.T. approved tire also.
