What kind car can I find a set of 3.42 or 3.73 gears? I drive an old style Monte with an 8.5 inch rear end and any type of help would be greatly appreciated.

I have seen 3.73 gears used along with 700r4 transmissions...of the Old A body cars..I have seen that ratio in Cutlass bodys more than others..

I have found an 8.5 3.42 gears out of an 78 -80 caddy... look for the ones with an ht4100 automatic overdrive. The axels are 5x5 but you can run your own stock axels. I just picked one up last week at pick-a-part complete with axels for 70$

In the half ton trucks, 3.42 were very popular in the 1/2 ton 4x4 that came with an inline six cylinder. I know someone that may still have their original that they replace for 4.56s because of mudslings. I know for sure it is a 8.5 rear end. I also have an odd 3.23 gear for the same
