Do the headers ends connect into this or is it made between the headers?

usually back around one or two feet from collectors,i'd just run a h-pipe
it's alot easier to make and is almost as good.

Had the X under the tail shaft of the tranny 2 1/2 pipe. I'm trying a Y merge collecter with 1 big muffer this year to see if theres a difference.

true, an "H" pipe is easier to make but the "X" or merged "Y" configuration is much more efficient. it's worth the extra effort. the "H" pipe is more of a balance tube while the "X" and merged "Y" scavenges much better. look at all the winston cup cars and see what they have.......an "X" pipe.

Could a muffler shop make an x pipe?

yes, a muffler shop could make one but they probably won't do it correctly. make your own and you know it's right. i buy 4 90 degree mandrel bends at a truck supply and cut an oval in the top of the bends of 2 of them and weld them together. it takes a little time to get them to fit up good, but the end result is better than an exhaust shop. you'll need to cut the other 2 90 degree bends into 4 45 degree bends and weld them to the 4 outlets of the "X" to connect it to 2 side by side pipes. if you have room, you can connect your mufflers directly to the "X" with some same size tubing and use only 3 90 degree bends.
