Hey I am rebuilding my chevy 350, when I took it apart it had a high volume oil pump in it. Keep in mind this is basically a stock 4 bolt main with flat tops and has a regular oil pan. Upon inspection everything was fine in the engine but should I put a hv oil pump back in it or a regular oil pump?

i wouldn't use a high volume pump in a stock pan unless you have an accumulator. a high volume pump can pump the pan dry in a racing environment and destroy the bearings.

Stock pan=stock volume pump

My personal view is skip the high volume pump. Unless you are going to go all the way on the block prep with restrictors and the whole ball of wax the high volume pump doesn't make much sense. Puts too much oil where it doesn't need to be and causes drag. I like the oil to stay in the pan and bearings and not up top. I use a stock volume high pressure pump. I will probably take a beating on this anyway because alot of guys say you don't need that much pressure and all it does is cause excess drag. Whichever way you go I would suggest you run a hardened shaft and Bronze distributor gear. This is just my opinion.

stock volume,almost always,why mess up the best oiling system ever designed?

In the past I ran a HV pump in a stock 4 bolt
main 350 w/flat top and had problems with eating up distributor gears, I tried shims, better gears and found that by putting in a stock pump that fixed the problem.
