Great site, I run a bomber class where everything on the motor must "appear" stock. I want to take a set of factory heads and tweak to their best potential. I don't want to run a Dart because I would get caught eventually. Then I would be back at square one. What heads are the best to start with? I've seen the 292 "turbo" heads for sale, are they good? Thanks all.

Look at your rules carefully. Talk to your tech man. Some tracks don't allow the use of 292 "turbo" heads for the same reason they don't allow Bowtie's, they're over the counter heads, never used on a production vehicle. That said, I personally believe Bowtie's, 292's, and Vortec L31's are the best "factory" made heads. As for "production" heads, go with Vortec L31's, 461x, or about any double hump you can find.

in the closed chamber head the camel humps are the best 461,041,186,462, 291,ect. and open chanber heads 441 487 993 are the best. 882 flow better on the exhsaust side but have a bad rep for cracking so alot of people stay away from them , Ive use 882 on a figure 8 car for many years and had no trouble with them. Also the vortec heads are very good flowing heads, but intakes manifolds are an issue, but ive seen guys make the older intake work on the vortecs.
