Dad has a couple of these,I'm kinda a dummy when it comes to a standerd,Does the 'cheater' button replace the clutch on the tranny, wich means to move the car,You would need to put it in gear, then start it,or be pushed right?

Can the set up be used with a motor plate.I can imagine its not ideal, but it wouldnt cost anything, thought it would make a good deal for a spare tranny,if not the primary tranny, gotta be more reliable than a glide till I get a Falcon/Brinn.

If you are talking about the small hub deal that bolts on to the crank instead of the clutch yes it replaces the clutch assembly.
We used one several years ago.Get a good 153
tooth flex plate & put it on with the cheater button.I took a three speed & took everything out except for the high gear slider.I fixed the slider so it would not move back past the nutral position toward the 2nd gear. The tranny would either be in nutral or high gear because this was the only gear so this gave me a straight drive only. The driver would put the car in gear & use the starter to crank jump it off as we called it.From the end of the crank to the pinion gear it was just a straight drive with a nutral position in it.The car was quick on the starts but you would have to be really easy lifting off the gas with no clutch weight & useing a very low gear on a really slick track.

I ran one last year when my triple disk clutch went out. I use the cheater button as a backup. It works well. Its a pain sometimes to have to start the car in gear but once you get used to it, its ok. Really frees up some HP too.

how does a cheater button work? is the car not able to set in lineup in gear? or is it a locked drive that hooks to the input shaft and must be started in gear to take off?

Its just a coupler that directly couples the trans to the eng. No clutch. So for the car to idle it must be out of gear. Then you have to kill the engine put it in gear and restart the engine in gear.
